Cologne, 5th of December 2013. Timur Vermes' Hitler satire ER IST WIEDER DA has taken bookstores, readers and bestseller lists by storm, and now the 'Führer' is coming to cinemas: The publishing company Bastei Lübbe AG, based in Cologne, has awarded the film rights to Berliner Mythos Film.

ER IST WIEDER DA was published by Eichborn Verlag which is a part of Bastei Lübbe AG. Mythos Film will be bringing the million-copy bestseller onto the big screen in 2015 in co-production with Constantin Film.

Timur Vermes' debut novel is a pastiche, a satire and a political comedy in equal measure - a first-class literary showpiece. Vermes achieved huge unexpected success with his debut novel. ER IST WIEDER DA was published on 21 September 2012, has sold nearly 1.3 million copies to date and has been in the top ten of the SPIEGEL bestseller list for over a year, including five months at No. 1. The title was published in hardcover, audiobook (read by Christoph Maria Herbst) and e-book and has been licensed in 38 countries, including USA, England, France, Russia, Japan, China, Iceland, Lithuania, Serbia, Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria.

Timur Vermes will now also write the screenplay for the film adaptation. ER IST WIEDER DA is being produced by Christoph Müller and Lars Dittrich in co-production with Constantin Film. Martin Moszkowicz, Head of Film and Television, and Oliver Berben, General Manager of Constantin Film Produktion, are the executive producers. The German exploitation rights are owned by Constantin Film Verleih GmbH, which will be releasing the film in cinemas in 2015.

In Timur Vermes' satire, Adolf Hitler wakes up in Berlin in the present, 66 years after his supposed death. No war, no party, no Eva. Amid a time of peace, among thousands of foreigners and Angela Merkel, the dictator decides against all odds to start a new career - as a comedian on TV, because today's Germany is cynical and eager enough for success to see him as such and to make a TV star out of him.

Timur Vermes (born 1967) studied politics and history in Erlangen and then became a journalist. He wrote for the 'Abendzeitung' and the Cologne 'Express' and worked for several magazines. Since 2009, he has published five books as a ghostwriter.
