Africa’s Rebellion against European Colonialism

Democracy or dictatorship? Visions for Africa

In the 1960s, Europe declared that colonialism in Africa had come to an end. But that was a lie. Europeans, who like to portray themselves as champions of democracy and the rule of law, have in fact never stopped oppressing the men and women of Africa. They have supported facade democracies and bolstered the corrupt political systems that allow them to continue exploiting the continent. Yet people in many African nations have reached a point where they refuse to stand for it any longer.

Issio Ehrich exposes the complex networks that connect Europe and Africa and all too often serve to enrich Germany, France and Co., for example, when it involves strategic resources such as uranium and rare earth minerals. What would it take for a partnership on equal footing to succeed?

This book shows why we need the countries of Africa as strategic partners

Peace and prosperity in Europe can only be achieved together with Africa

The author shows how the old colonial structures have become entrenched, and why it is important to demolish them

Issio Ehrich is the winner of the prestigious Theodor Wolff Prize 2024 for his report in the newspaper DIE ZEIT on the coup d'état in Niger in 2023
